Postponing due to Covid-19 was photographed by Associate Photographer, Amie Hazlett with Tina Joiner Photography.
Many couples have had to postpone their weddings due to Covid. Andrew and Martha were set to be married in June of 2020, now they are scheduled for June 2021. The decision was not easy, but clearly the right one for them.

How they met
Martha: Andrew and I met in June of 2015. He had only been in Colorado for about a year after moving from his childhood home in Indiana. He started work with my brother-in-law at Ace Hardware and they became close friends. Once my sister met him, she had a gut feeling that Andrew and I should meet. She is not the match-making type, but for some reason, she thought we would get along and if anything, would be great friends. We officially met at my nieces birthday party and as soon as we started a conversation we ended up talking the rest of the night. We had an instant connection and 5 1/2 years later we still love talking to each other about anything and everything, even if we don’t always agree on things. Andrew and I love a healthy debate, haha!
How did Andrew propose?
Martha: Andrew proposed in July of 2018, in South Haven, Michigan. Andrew’s family has a tradition of going to South Haven every summer. After we were together a year, I started to go along with them. Andrew has a very close group of friends that he grew up with and they had started to go to Michigan as soon as they were of driving age at the same time. Andrew’s family let everyone stay with them. So the years I started going it was a packed house! It was this time of year that Andrew was the happiest because he was around his family and friends. They would usually rent a cabin right next to the water with a private beach.
One day, Andrew asked me to take a walk with him (just us) along the beach before dinner. It was almost sunset. Right before we got back to our cabin, Andrew stopped me and gave a lovely speech about what I have meant to him and the love we have for each other and how he wanted that for the rest of his life. He looked me straight in the eyes the whole time and got down on one knee. We were on the beach and the water came up to our feet. He presented the ring he picked out all on his own and asked me to marry him.
I had tears in my eyes and accepted right away. It was such a special moment: just the two of us alone on the beach. He didn’t want to do it in front of people or make a huge spectacle of it. He knew that I didn’t want that either. When we got back to the cabin, his family and friends were ready with champagne and roses to congratulate us. It turned out that he had planned to propose and told everyone! They all had to keep it a secret from me. I had absolutely no idea and was surprised by the whole thing, which made it more special.
Postponing a Wedding during Covid
Martha: We did have to postpone the wedding because of COVID-19. It was so hard to make that decision, but it was the right one for us. We want to have a big wedding so that we can celebrate with the people who mean the most to us. It is also our top priority to keep our loved ones safe. So we put away our selfish wants and realize our love is not going anywhere. We are willing to wait, if we can do this wedding the way we want it to be.
I would share with other brides going through this to be patient and understanding. There are things we cannot control or change, but we can control our reactions. If the love you share with your partner is truly worth it, you will find a way to say your vows because ultimately that’s what it should be about. Whether it’s in front of 300 people or just one, the commitment you are making remains the same. Take a deep breath, have positive thoughts, and make the choices that are ultimately going to make you and your partner happy.
